Hoof Problems?
Up to Forum
I am purchasing a 7 year old Paint Gelding and he seems to be a little stiff in the back legs and he is overreaching and clipping his hooves. Back on back. I believe it is a farrier problem. He is not wearing shoes! I believe it can be corrected by trimming and getting the horse shod. Can anyone give me any other ideas what could be causing this??
My horse has the same problem. we had a trainer live with us who helped me. she does classical dressage and she says it is a balence problem. the horse may not be able to pick up his sholders and move his front feet out of the way fast enough. the best thing to do is called counter-shoulder in. put your horse up to a fence and ask him to move sideways. do not let him move with only his shoulders or his hindquarters, he should move almost perpendicular to the fence. you should not let him turn his neck and head tword you. you should see his feet crossing over each other. it is best to start this from the ground, them when you horse has it, you can do it from the saddle.
