Breaking in a saddle

Posted by Julianne Auty at May 07. 2007

I just got this new saddle but i have no clue how to break it in without ruining it. (It's an English saddle by the way). I need the easiest and fastest way. What kind of oil do i use? If i even need oil how do i put it on? What should i do the first time i use it? Wow.. i'm clueless... HELP ME PLEASE?

all you need to do to break your saddle in is to ride your horse with your new saddle then clean your saddle when you are done.

Well, the cleaning oil to use in my opinion would be neatsfoot oil. It wont stain your leather and you will soften your leather gradually over period of usage.

Neatsfoot oil is the best, but watch out.  it can leave a sticky residue.  you also need to put a lot on every day for at least a week

baby powder takes out that squeaky noise and leather new breaks in saddles its a liquid spray dont spray straight on the saddle use a rag and rub it into the saddle easy as 123
